The Story of the Edinburgh People's Festival - ALL WEEK - FREE
The story of the EPF: what triggered its origin, who were involved, the 1951, 1952 and 1953 festival highlights, McCarthyism and its effect on the original EPF, Hamish Henderson and Gramsci, the EPF rebirth in 2002, the 2003 to 2008 festivals and the future of the EPF.

Monday 11th:
Rebus's Edinburgh - A Walking Tour - FREE
Local actor and Rebus aficionado Colin Brown takes us on a tour of Rebus’s Edinburgh including all your favourite haunts from Ian Rankin’s famous flawed detective.
7pm – Starts outside THE ROYAL OAK, Infirmary Street. [Returns two hours later……unless of course there is a murderrrrrrr!]

Timothy Neat, Hamish Henderson’s official biographer will speak on the life and times of Scotland’s original thinker, poet, essayist and polymath.

The return of the People’s Festival’s famous comedy night. The finest and funniest mirth makers in Edinburgh turn up in Gorgie. ‘The Minnow’s ceilidh band’ with Stan Reeves [Robert Fish Band] provide the music, plus bar and including the 2008 People’s Festival awards night honouring campaigners and activists who have done most in the past year to enhance the lives of the citizens of Edinburgh.

25th January 2008

On January 25th 2008, an evening of music,comedy, traditional food, discussion and socialising. 'Celebrate the Radical' with Bruce Morton, acclaimed comic, storyteller and social commentator and Patrick Scott Hogg, a leading authority on the writing and life of Burns. Some tradition will be kept but the accent will be put on the content.

The Meadows Bar, 42 Buccleuch Street, Edinburgh 25th January 2008 at 7 p.m.
